Top 5 Wednesday is a Booktube group which makes book related top five lists. I’m not very regular with my Youtube videos so I’ll post them here instead when I can.

This week is ‘Books Featuring Vampires’. I could have picked any supernatural creature and it was between vampires and the fae. The only deciding factor for me is that I wanted to mention a book that I read recently. Also, there are a couple of shows in here too that I love:
5) Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead:
I just like this series. It’s a fun concept on vampire lore.
4) Buffy the Vampire Slayer:
In my defence, there are a lot of Buffy books, as my bookcase can intend to.
I love Buffy, it will always be my first love, so it had to be on this list.
3) The Originals:
It’s sort of based off books. That counts then … right?
I love The Originals, more so than The Vampire Diaries. I like the use of focusing on a family … and a city which was why it was in my dissertation… and it’s rare that the focus is on the first ever vampires.
Also, I love Klaus. Having a vampire/werewolf hybrid is a good twist.
The only reason it’s at number 3 is because it’s a TV show rather than a book.
2) Doctor Who: Myths and Legends by Richard Dinnick:
It’s actually a collection of stories based on Greek mythology, set in the Doctor Who Universe.
Read this recently and loved it. Though vampires don’t make an appearance in every story, they are mentioned a lot with Time Lord history. It’s interesting having alien vampires that can change any other species of alien, even fish based.
Only second because I enjoyed the book as a whole slightly less than number one.
1) Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton:
A vampire hunter that falls in love with a vampire… among other beings… sounds kind of familiar to another one on this list.
Also has vampires with abilities, can’t imagine why it’s here.
Sure there’s a bit too much sex as the series progresses but when the main character is more or less turned into a succubus, what do you expect?

Vampire Academy is one of my favorite vampire books. I love how detailed the whole moroi vs strigoi and the magic system is.

I really enjoyed Vampire Academy. Anita Blake I was super into, but I was reading it when I was about 15 and felt a wee bit uncomfortable with it all…. also worried the librarians might start saying something haha. I might pick it up now and see what I think.

I think I started reading them when I was 15 too 🙂 Though, my friend let me borrow her copies so I didn’t have to worry about the librarians.

The Anita Blake series lore on their creatures is some of my favorite. Solid characters and a story line I enjoy, I only felt that they tend to build up then finish too quickly. (No pun intended)
Buffy, is there anything else to say. AMAZING. I should read more of it to be honest.
I like you’re list, it would have been tough to pick only five out of the throng.
